I always looked forward to our July 4th party – the fireworks, food and fun!
The day would start early. We’d dress my little niece and nephew like cute firecrackers in their red, white and blue outfits. Then, we’d drag the lawn chairs and coolers out to the front lawn and get all set up for the parade. The firetrucks and floats would go by and the all the kids in the neighborhood would scramble for candy on the sidewalks.
Then, there would be food. And tons of it. Hot dogs or hamburgers, chips, soda, potato salad, macaroni salad and an assortment of cookies. It was all wonderful.
After some downtime, we’d go on a really long bike ride up to the elementary school. That was always really fun as we worked off all the great food we ate.
Next, we’d drive somewhere to watch the fireworks. Sometimes we’d watch them from a tall building, sometimes at the beach – it was always a great time.
But the long awaited event of the entire day was shooting off fireworks in the street in front of our house. Sparklers, snakes, snap-its, M80s, tanks, flaming candles, bottle rockets – you name it, we lit it. We’d laugh at the near misses and enjoy the spectacle. And when it was all done, we’d sweep up the mess and start planning what we wanted to shot off the next year.
Those were great memories! What do you remember the most about your July 4th party?
